LET IT RAIN!!!!!

When it rains, most people go inside to avoid getting wet. But people living in Hawker, an outback town in the Flinders Ranges in northern South Australia are different, and it’s what sets the locals apart from the tourists. The locals run outside their businesses and dwellings to stand in a downpour- so welcome is the rain after months of dry, crippling drought. The sheer joy of life-giving rain makes getting soaked a pleasure.

Just as a physical drought teaches us that there is no substitute for rain, a time of spiritual dryness burns into us the truth that we cannot live without God’s renewing Spirit. “Showers of blessing, showers of blessing we need; mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead.” (Whittle)

The spiritual refreshing we crave comes only from above. Christ alone can satisfy our spiritual thirst for the “living water” He promised to all who come to Him (John 4:14). Come, and drink; set time aside for God, your Maker. Prioritise worship time over all else; get to know Him through His word, encourage one another to come and worship God, the Source of all our blessings and you will indeed be blessed abundantly.

We all can have abundant life,

Not one of desperation,

As we walk closely with the Lord

And flee from sin’s temptation.
